The Philippines has become a place of industry. Factories and buildings are on our landscapes growing like weeds. Trees are depleting, rich and thriving fields and deteriorating, our bodies of water are blackening. The sky are choking on smoke from the conveniences of life. I don’t want our son to live in a world that’s nearing its death. That’s why we are slowly doing our best to contribute to the zero-waste movement.
My family and I are not the most eco-conscious people… but we are learning. We try to educate ourselves how we can help alleviate the Earth from unhealthy waste and different forms of pollution. I mean, I wouldn’t want to be a part of the reason why Yñigo will, one day, have a very unpleasant world to live in.
If there’s one thing Manila is starting to catch up on, it’s having spaces that commit to providing more eco-friendly and sustainable living solutions. That’s exactly how we felt when we heard about Humble Market!
Located in Mandala Park, Humble Market occupies the corner of YDG coffee shop! Roanna Medina and Michiko, two down-to-earth ladies who want to do their part in making a difference to this country!
The place itself is quaint and cozy! It’s perfect to shop for single-use items. They carry products such as beeswax wraps (food storage), organic soaps, reusable panty-liners, metal razors, cotton net totes, bamboo toothbrushes (my fave)!
Our favorite part was their pantry! Bobby and I were just going through all the options - red rice, handmade pastas, adlai, granola, flax seeds and more! Bring your own containers or purchase bottles from their store because all their food items are package-free! It’s all self-service, so you weigh your containers and fill them up to your desired amount.
A LITTLE EFFORT IS STILL EFFORT AT THE END OF THE DAY… SO DON’T HESITATE TO START CHANGING YOUR HABITS. IT’LL GO A LONG WAY IN SAVING OUR PLANET.
We already started with the use of ecobags, and stainless steel straws during our trips. Apart from that, we also educate Yñigo with basic stuff on how to keep surroundings clean a.k.a him knowing where to throw trash (when there is), and him cleaning up for himself. Funny how sometimes he also does that during our trips - picking up trash in the beach, or wherever we may be.
Very pleased with Humble Market and all that they do. When you’re here, you’re not just supporting local suppliers and artisans. Your interest and passion to be an advocate of change will ignite within you.
